Box Score 3 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - McKendree University women's tennis added two more wins for the 2023 season against Maryville and the University of Missouri St. Louis this past weekend. The Bearcats improve to 8-2 overall as they prepare for two matches on the road on Friday and Saturday.
McKendree faced Maryville on Friday afternoon, defeating the Saints 4-3. Though the Saints took the win in doubles play, McKendree claimed four wins in singles matches to seal the victory. Senior Viola Cipriani won the No.2 match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, while junior Rhyan Cook triumphed for a three set win in the No.4 match, 1-6, 6-0, 7-6. In the No.5 and No.6 matches, junior Camilla Fonseca won 6-1, 6-4 and Maria Vitoria Salomao snuck away with a 7-6, 7-5.
On Sunday, the Bearcats broke UMSL's 11-match winning streak as they defeated the Tritons 4-2. The win marked McKendree's first over UMSL since 2008.
Caicedo Mora and Cook kicked off the competition defeating UMSL's Anna Domingo and Anna Favaron 6-3 in doubles play. McKendree was awarded the No.3 match by default.
In singles, fifth-year senior Manuela Barriga posted a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Domingo in the No.1 match as Cipriana sealed the No.2 match in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
Additionally, the Bearcats hosted Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in a scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon. McKendree recorded its best finish against a Division I program in history with a final score of 4-3.

Coming up, the Bearcats will be on the road this week against Lewis on Friday and the University of Illinois-Springfield on Saturday.
