Box Score O'FALLON, Ill. – McKendree University women's tennis faced Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon at home, falling to the Huskies 3-4. The Bearcats look to prepare for two more home matches next weekend on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.
In doubles play, McKendree secured a win in the No.1 match as senior Camilla Fonseca and fifth-year senior Viola Cipriani won 6-3 against Michigan Tech's Bella Bigari and Katerina Khardina. In the No.2 match, senior Maria Vitoria Salomao and junior Sofija Djunisijevic fell with a close score of 5-7. Senior Rhyan Cook and junior Pien Ruempol rounded out the doubles matches, falling 2-6.
The Bearcats captured three singles wins on the day including a victory in the No.2 spot from Cipriani against Caoimhe McDonnell, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Cook also secured the win at No.3 over Bigari in two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-1 while Djunisjevic sealed the win in the No.4 match over Emily Cojocaru 3-6, 6-4, 1-0. In the No.1 match, Fonseca fell to Grace Eland 3-6, 4-6; at the No.5 match, Salomao was edged out by Emily Rose 6-7, 5-7; Ruempol competed in the No.6 singles match, falling against Chiara Heinz 1-6, 0-6.
Up next, McKendree hosts Missouri Baptist on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. followed by a match with Quincy on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill.
