Women's Volleyball Set to Face UMSL, Maryville on the Road

LEBANON, Ill. - McKendree University women's volleyball is headed to St. Louis this weekend to compete against the University of Missouri - St. Louis and Maryville University. The Bearcats currently hold a 2-6 overall record following two tournament outings. 

On Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. the Bearcats face UMSL who have been off to a strong start for the season, collecting a 7-1 overall record to rank No. 6 in the latest AVCA coaches poll. The Triton's only loss was in five sets to No.24 Regis. The Tritons are currently led by junior setter Caitlin Bishop, averaging 11.90 assists per set. Freshman outside hitter Alayna Santel leads the team offensively averaging 3.71 kills per set. The Bearcats overall record against the Tritons is 7-12, last taking down UMSL in three sets in 2018.

On Saturday, Sept. 21 at noon the Bearcats take on Maryville who are coming off an overall record of 4-4 to the start of the season. Most recently, the Saints competed in the Quincy Hawk Invitational going 3-1, falling in their last game to Winona State University in four sets. The Saints are currently led by junior outside hitter Ella Brinkmann, averaging 3.00 kills per set. Defensively, graduate student defensive specialist Taylor Hasbrook is leading the team in digs, averaging 5.58 per set. The Bearcats overall record against the Saints is 14-6, last taking down Maryville in 2021 in five sets.

After the first few weeks of the season, graduate student right-side hitter Colleen Preusser is leading the team with 3.40 kills per set, and junior outside hitter Destiny Gray leads behind with 3.13 kills per set. Senior setter Amber Williams leads the team in assists with 9.10 assists per set. Defensively, Preusser leads the team in digs with 4.03 digs per set and freshman middle blocker Avery Guisinger leads the team in blocks with 22.0 blocks on the season. 

Both games are streamed via GLVCsn on a pay-per-view basis and live statistics will be available. All games will be hosted in the Mark Twain Building.
