INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The McKendree Men's Bowling team had a strong showing at the Western Shootout with the team getting second place and had four bowlers finish within the top 20 out of a field of 300.
The Bearcats varsity team this weekend was composed of Darren Zombro, Dale Horstmann, Xavier Newell, Nathan Bassford, Brett Maciejewski, Trevor Pense, Keaton Gullion and Connor Lunning.
On the first day, the team completed six traditional games and knocked down 6,421 pins with an average of 214.03. Newell led the way for McKendree finishing fifth overall with an average of 228. Out of his six games, three of them scored over 260.
Finishing 11th was Horstmann with an average of 220 and a high game of 254 coming in the third game of the day. Right behind him was Zombro at 15th, averaging 218 and a high game 253. Coming in 53rd was Maciejewski averaging 203.8 with a high game of 235. Bassford averaged 200.5 on that day, which earned him 61st with a high game of 242.
This team effort led them to finish second going into the last day of competition.
On the second day, the Bearcats finished with 3,232 pins after rolling 16 baker games. The team's best block came in baker games nine through 12, going 237, 238, 233, and 212 to make a late push for the top spot.
The team ended up taking the second-place spot with a total of 9,653 only 174 behind the leader.
The junior varsity team was able to knock down 8,679 and finished eighth out of 13 other junior varsity teams in Indianapolis. The team was composed of Alex Thompson, Brandon West, Jacob Podunajec, Macallan Gagne, Mason Hunter, Rhett Detering, Seth Gort and Zach Vanderpool.
Vanderpool led the junior varsity team finishing 16th with an average of 216. 17 and a high game of 266. Closely behind him was West, with a high game of 231averaging 198.17 in all six games.

The McKendree Men's Bowling team will be competing at the Lion's Classic in St. Charles, Missouri on November 1st and 2nd hosted by Lindenwood University.
