ROCKFORD, Ill. – McKendree Men's Bowling team earned a 12th place finish at the Leatherneck Classic this past weekend at the Don Carter Lanes.
For the tournament, the qualifying slate included five traditional games on Saturday and four sets of four baker games on Sunday. After that the field would be cut down to an eight-team bracket to decide the winner.
Individually, Nathan Bassford led the team in 30th, averaging 208 in traditional games, and a high game of 279. Averaging 191.8 was Darren Zombro who finished 88th out of the field of 457 competitors.
With four accredited games, Brett Maciejewski and Xavier Newell averaged 191.5 and 175.5, placing them in 210th and 249th respectively.
Dale Horstmann had three accredited games where he averaged 193.3 and had a high game of 222. Trevor Pense had three accredited games as well; he averaged 186 and had a high game of 225. Finishing out the scoring for the varsity team was Zach Vanderpool who had one accredited game with a 167.
The team went into the baker games in 16th place, needing a good push to get into that top eight to make the cut. While they did get a good push bowling a 767, 840, 848, and 703 it moved them to finish in 12th place out of the 39 teams. This brought them to a total pinfall of 7,930.
For the JV team Macallan Gagne finished 20th out of the field averaging 214 and had a high game of 269. With four accredited games, Rhett Detering averaged 189.5. Alex Thompson had three accredited games where he averaged 204.3 and had a high game of 228.
Connor Lunning, Keaton Gullion and Mason Hunter also had three accredited games and averaged 189, 179 and 178.7 respectively for the Bearcats.
Seth Gort and Jacob Podunajec had two accredited games and averaged 189 and 184 respectively.
In the baker games, the team bowled well to finish in 5th place out of 30 teams. They finished with a total pinfall of 7,854.
Next Up
The McKendree Men's Bowling team will have a couple of weeks off before its home tournament on November 22nd and 23rd at St. Clair Bowl.
