COLUMBIA, Mo. – McKendree Women's Swimmers Beatriz Souza and Helena Kurtz broke three school records, Souza in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and Kurtz in the 100-yard butterfly at the Mizzou Invitational this past weekend.
Souza had an incredible weekend in Columbia as she now holds the school record for the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. In the 100 breaststroke she swam 1:02.69 to earn 10th place in the event and the 200 she finished with a time of 2:17.13 for an 11th place finish.
Kurtz swam an impressive 54.94 in the 100-yard butterfly to now hold the school record and finish 13th in that event.
Luiza Dias and Jocelyn Zogla finished 13th and 14th in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:51.27 and 1:51.31 respectively. Sarah Gormly also had a top 16 performance in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.10.
Tumi Macdonell, Kurtz, Dias and Souza teamed up for a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:40.99. The trio of Dias, Kurtz and Souza also combined with Atzi Gomez for a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay for a time of 1:44.75.
Elena Argabright also had a top 16 performance with a 12th place finish in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:59.12.
The team finished with 456 points at the meet and finished 6th. Overall, the team had 29 top 15 finishes, 27 NCAA B-cut performances, five NCAA A-cut performances, and three school records broken.
Next the team will be back at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on January 10th for a dual meet against WashU.
