ELKHART, Ind. - No. 6 McKendree University men's swim and dive closed out the final night of the 2025 GLVC Championship with a second-place finish with 1734.5 points.
Starting off the final day of competition the 1-meter dive saw juniors Xander McWhorter and Finn Moseley placed fifth and sixth with scores of 350.05 and 272.35 respectively.
Sophomore Christan Davidson took silver in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:19.71. Davidson was joined by junior Michael Stooke on the podium who took seventh place in 15:45.38.
The 100-yard freestyle saw junior a Tyson Upton and Senior Arthur Souza take second and third with times of 43.68 and 43.74. Senior Archie Minto took eighth in 44.64.
Senior Patryk Rozenek not only broke the school record, but the GLVC record in the 200-yard backstroke bringing home gold with a time of 1:43.04
The 200-yard breaststroke saw freshman Polat Tasbasi take eighth place with a time of 2:00.15reshman Polat Tasbasi take eighth place with a time of 2:00.15
The Bearcats closed out the week with yet another GLVC record in the 400-freestyle relay. Freshman Vova Gavrysh, Souza, Senior Alireza Yavari, and Upton swam the record-breaking time of 2:52.88.
Head coach Jimmy Tierney was named the GLVC men's head coach of the year, and Vova Gavrysh was named the GLVC freshman of the year.
This week saw vast successes as there were 155 personal bests, 117 "B" finalists, 48 "A" finalists, 7 GLVC records, and 8 school records throughout the five days of swimming and diving across both men's and women's teams.
The Bearcats are back in the pool next Saturday, Feb. 22 at home for the Bearcat Last Chance meet.
