Men’s Track and Field Battles at Greenville Select Meet

GREENVILLE, Ill. - McKendree University men's track and field competed at the Greenville University select meet, hosted by Greenville University. The Bearcats saw a plethora of personal bests. 

The day started with junior Blake Westrater in the 5000m throwing down a personal record with a time of 15:53.53. Westrater is the first Bearcat to break the 16-minuet barrier in this event outdoors since Benjamin Richter in 2016, and fastest time run in the event since 2015.  

In the 100m sophomore Matthew Chandler ran a personal best, leaning through the line in 10.85. Freshman Kaleb Tucker ran a personal best as well of 11.12. Chandler and Tucker placed third and 10th respectively. Tucker also took first place in the 110m hurdles, with a personal best of 15.06. 

Chandler followed up this performance with a seventh place finish in the 200m, crossing the finish in 22.18. 

The 400m saw junior Roemello Byndloss and freshman Jevor Murray place fourth and seventh respectively with times of 48.86 and 49.38. A career best for Murray. 

Freshman Diego Paz Denis ran a stellar race, running a personal best time of 1:54.88 in the 800m, placing third. 

Junior Julian Juszczyk placed first in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 57.19. Junior George Safo took eighth with a personal best of 1:02.10. 

The 4 x 400m realy unit of Murray, Byndloss, Chandler, and Paz took second place with a time of 3:16.88, the second best time the relay has run this season. 

Over on the field, freshman Kierson Wicks once again placed first in the high jump, this time with a mark of 2.05m. In fourth place, fellow freshman leaper Keagan Greff placed fourth with a leap of 1.83m. 

In the horizontal jumps, junior Austin Dunn took eighth place with a leap of 6.39m, followed by sophomore junior Jordan Tucker with a bound of 6.16m. In the triple jump, Dunn and Tucker leaped marks of 12.84m and 12.43m placing fifth and eighth respectively. 

The throwing unit of senior Matthew Wilson and freshman Nicholas Pederson took second and 10th place with marks of 13.76m and 11.92m respectively in the shot put. Wilson also took 10th in the discus with a mark of 34.05m, and 6th in the hammer throwing 43.34m.  

The Bearcats will travel to Rolla, Mo. for the Dewey Allgood Invitational on Sat. April 19.
