EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The group of Vova Gavrysh, Tyson Upton, Jakub Rynkiewicz and Caden Brooks take fifth place in the 800-yard freestyle relay on the first day of NCAA Division 2 Nationals at the Deaconess Aquatic Center Tuesday night.
McKendree Men's Swim and Dive kicked off the Division 2 National meet with the 800-yard freestyle relay event. The team of Vova Gavrysh, Tyson Upton, Jakub Rynkiewicz and Caden Brooks swam an impressive 6:23.54 time in the to earn them a fifth-place finish.
Leading off the relay was Vova Gavrysh who swam a 1:32.40 in his 200-yard freestyle split; this would set a new school by 0.33 seconds and national record by 0.06 seconds.
They will be heading back to the Deaconess Aquatic Center for the second day of competition. The events on Wednesday will be the 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestlye and 1000-yard freestyle.
