Wichita Falls, TX - The McKendree University Women's Tennis team battled Midwestern State on the road but ultimately fell 7-0 to the Mustangs in nonconference action.
Midwestern State took early control by sweeping the doubles matches to secure the opening point. The Mustangs began with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles over
Kristina Bogomazova and
Alessia Baiardi, followed by a 6-4 decision at No. 2 where
Lena Greefs and
Keira Greefs pushed their opponents but came up short. Midwestern State completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 with a 6-1 victory over
Emmy Zsigmond and
Ivana Milkova.
The Mustangs carried that momentum into singles play, claiming victories across the lineup to seal the team result.
At No. 1 singles,
Lena Greefs faced Selin Sepken, with Sepken earning a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Kristina Bogomazova battled at No. 2 but fell 6-1, 6-1 to Emilia Gyorgy, while
Ivana Milkova dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 3 to Camila Garcia Morales.
Midwestern State also secured straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, where
Alessia Baiardi and
Keira Greefs competed but were unable to shift the momentum.
McKendree's closest match came at No. 6 singles, where
Emmy Zsigmond opened with a 6-2 first set win over Hattie Berend. Berend responded with a 6-4 second set before narrowly taking the deciding match tiebreak 10-5.
Midwestern State completed the sweep with a 7-0 final score, but the Bearcats continued to compete throughout the lineup, highlighted by Zsigmond's three-set battle in singles play.
