(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 16)—The McKendree University volleyball team dropped its second consecutive American Midwest Conference match on Saturday, falling in five sets at William Woods University. The host Owls defeated the Bearcats by scores of 18-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18 and 15-10.
The loss sends McKendree to 18-7 overall and 5-3 in the AMC. The Bearcats will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday as they return home to face Harris-Stowe State University in league play. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
At William Woods, senior middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) led the offensive attack for McKendree with 10 kills, while fellow senior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) added nine kills and a team-leading five blocks.
McKendree's two assist leaders on the season combined for 35 in the contest, with senior Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) handing out 18 with junior Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) right behind with 17. Speckhals also contributed 17 digs and four service aces as senior libero Lindsey Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) led the Bearcats with 19 digs.
