(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 25)—The McKendree University volleyball team solidified its grip on second place in the American Midwest Conference standings with a three-set sweep Monday evening at Harris-Stowe State University. The Bearcats cruised to the win by scores of 25-7, 25-10 and 25-7.
McKendree has won its last four matches, and 16 of its last 17, to improve to 22-7 overall. The Bearcats are now 9-3 in AMC play, and will be on the road Wednesday for another important league contest against Missouri Baptist University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Senior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) posted a team-leading 12 kills to lead McKendree at Harris-Stowe. Senior outside hitter Tara Ryterski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) chipped in with eight attacks, while senior middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) notched seven kills.
Senior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) had a big night for the Bearcats with team-high totals of 12 assists and six service aces. Junior setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) handed out 11 assists as senior libero Lindsey Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) registered 10 digs and four aces against the Hornets.
Monday's win marked the second in five days for the Bearcats against Harris-Stowe. McKendree swept the Hornets in three sets on Wednesday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
