(HANNIBAL, Mo., Nov. 2)—The McKendree University volleyball team earned its 25th victory of the 2010 season Tuesday night, posting a four-set road win at Hannibal-LaGrange University. After dropping the first set, the Bearcats rallied to sweep the final three sets and take the match by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-23.
McKendree now stands at 25-10 overall and improves to 10-4 in American Midwest Conference play. This is the first time since the 2006 season that the Bearcats have reached the 25-win mark. The Bearcats collected 26 wins back in 2006.
McKendree will be at home Thursday for another AMC contest, this time against Missouri Baptist University. First serve will be at 7 p.m. Prior to the match, McKendree will hold Senior Day, and will honor its seven senior players in a special pre-match ceremony.
At Hannibal-LaGrange, junior right-side hitter Nadia Moore (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) paced the Bearcats with 11 kills. Senior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) contributed a team-best 28 assists, while junior setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) chipped in with 17 sets. Senior libero Lindsey Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) registered a team-leading 12 digs, and junior right-side hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) added four blocks.
Hannibal-LaGrange slipped to 17-11 overall and finished its AMC slate with a record of 10-6. The Bearcats swept both meetings with the Trojans. Back on Oct. 6 at the Melvin Price Convocation Center, McKendree outlasted Hannibal-LaGrange in four sets.
