(LEBANON, Ill., November 20)- The No. 12 McKendree University women's soccer team scored first, but gave up two goals to lose 2-1 to Baker University on Saturday in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round. The Bearcats end their season with an overall record of 15-4-2.
McKendree started off quickly and senior midfielder
Sarah Eckelkamp (Arnold, Mo./Fox) scored off her own blocked shot in the second minute of the game to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats tied the game on a free kick by Jordan Dolbin in the 40th minute and both teams headed into the half knotted up 1-1.
Both teams played equal for the majority of the second half until Dolbin struck again on another free kick in the 80th minute to give Baker a 2-1 lead. McKendree missed on scoring opportunities down the stretch and ended its season with the loss.
Senior goalkeeper
Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) played all 90 minutes and had two saves in the loss. She ended her senior season with a record of 15-2-2.
