(LEBANON, Ill., September 4)- The McKendree University women's soccer team played 50 minutes of scoreless soccer against Avila on Sunday, but a goal by the Eagles three seconds later dealt the Bearcats their first loss of the 2011 season, 1-0.
McKendree falls to 1-1 overall on the season and will travel to California for two games later this week. The Bearcats will face Vanguard University on Thursday, September 8th at 4 p.m. PST, before facing Westmont College on Saturday, September 10th at 11 a.m. PST.
In what was a physical back-and-forth contest, Avila held a slight first half shot advantage, 8-6, but McKendree did place three shots on goal in the first period. The shot count was an even 7-7 in the second half, but one by Danielle Price in the 51st minute proved to be the difference in the contest. Price scored an unassisted goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with just under 40 minutes to play. McKendree placed two shots on frame in the second half , but failed to hit the back of the net with either.
