The women's soccer team will host former American Midwest Conference-rival Missouri Baptist University on Monday evening at 5 p.m. The Bearcats enter their 2012 seaosn opener on a nine-game winning streak dating back to last season.
Missouri Baptist enters tonights game with a 1-3 overall record this season. The Spartans are coming off a 5-2 loss to Union University (Tenn.) on Saturday.
SEASON OPENER: Monday's game against Missouri Baptist marks the 2012 season opener for McKendree. The Bearcats are 10-5-3 all-time in season openers.
GREAT LAKES VALLEY CONFERENCE: McKendree is playing its first season in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) this season. The women's soccer team is not eligible for NCAA postseason play, and also can't qualify and compete in the GLVC tournament following this season due to the league having an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament in women's soccer.
GLVC OPENER: The Bearcats match at Maryville on Friday marks their first conference match in the GLVC. McKendree has not lost to Maryville in four previous meetings, but narrowly defeated the Saints, 2-1, in double overtime to open up last season.
RUBBER MATCH: McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis head into Sunday's match tied, 1-1, in two previous meetings. McKendree won the previous meeting, 1-0, on October 16, 2005.
MILESTONE WATCH: Head Coach
Tim Strange is starting the season with a career record of 196-52-18 as women's soccer coach at McKendree. He is the winningest coach in program history.
