Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 6)- Freshman forward
Alyssa Reiniger (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville) scored two goals on Sunday to lead the McKendree University women's soccer team to a 2-0 conference win over Lewis University.
The Bearcats improved to 5-3-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the victory and will travel to Saint Joseph's College in Renssalaer, Ind., on Friday, October 11 for a GLVC game at 5 p.m.
McKendree took advantage of the strong wind at its back in the first half. Reiniger took possession of a 50-50 ball following a goal kick, beat a defender and drilled a shot past the goalkeeper to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.
Senior forward
Amy Cassiday (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) hit a ball into the box off of a corner kick and Reiniger put a foot on it in traffic to score her second goal of the day, and third of the season, to give McKendree the 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats were outshot 16-8 in the contest, but the defense held strong to post the shutout. McKendree has not allowed a goal in three-straight games.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Zerbe (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) improved to 2-1 on the season and had four saves. It was also her first shutout of the season.
