Box Score (ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sep. 10)- The McKendree University women's soccer team scored two goals in the second half on Tuesday afternoon to defeat Missouri Baptist University 2-1.
The Bearcats improve to 2-1 overall and will travel to Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Sep. 13 to face Bellarmine University in a Great Lakes Conference game at 3:55 ET.
McKendree controlled the offensive side of the ball in the first half, outshooting the Spartans, 8-3, but couldn't sneak one past the keeper to head into the half scoreless.
In the 70th minute sophomore midfielder
Alyssa Patterson (Troy, Ill./Triad) broke through the Missouri Baptist defense and scored unassisted to put the Bearcats in the lead 1-0.
Freshman defender/midfielder
Lauren Mantei (Springfield, Ill./Rochester) scored her first collegiate goal in the 80th minute on a hard shot from 25 yards out to give McKendree a 2-0 advantage.
Missouri Baptist cut its deficit in half in the 86th minute on a goal by Argell London, but the Bearcat defense held over the remaining four minutes and earned the win.
Senior goalkeeper
Maggie Dudas (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) improved to 2-1 overall and had one save in the win. The victory is Dudas' 11th at McKendree, moving her into a tie for fifth all-time in career wins.
