Cassie Kaiping (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo)'s first goal of the season on Sunday proved to be a big one for the McKendree University women's soccer team in a 1-0 win at William Jewell College.
The Bearcats improved to 6-9 overall and 5-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Evansville, Ind., on Friday, Oct. 24 to face University of Southern Indiana in a conference matchup at 5 p.m.
McKendree held the offensive advantage in the contest by outshooting the hosts 15-6, but was unable to find the back of the net until Kaiping scored off a corner kick by junior midfielder
Liz Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) with 24-seconds left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats limited the Cardinals to only two shots in the second half and held on for the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Anna Sassman (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) improved to 1-5 overall this season and had two saves in the victory.
