Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 26)- The McKendree University women's soccer team lost its final home match of the season on Sunday, 2-1, to Bellarmine University.
The Bearcats fall to 7-10 overall and 6-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Springfield, Ill., on Wednesday, Oct. 29 to face University of Illinois Springfield in the final regular season match of the season. McKendree must win in order to keep its conference playoff hopes alive.
The Bearcats honored its four seniors,
Taryn Butler (Rochester, Ill./Rochester),
Natalie Crane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City),
Mary Geiger (Fairmont City, Ill./Althoff Catholic), and
Madalan O'Leary (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville), prior to the game as part of senior day festivities.
The Knights struck first by converting a penalty kick in the 11th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bearcats answered with a converted PK of its own in the 33rd minute by junior midfielder
Cassie Kaiping (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) to tie the game 1-1.
Bellarmine regained the lead, 2-1, in the 54th minute on a goal by Katie Fernandez, and McKendree was unable to get the equalizer in the remainder of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Anna Sassman (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) fell to 2-6 overall in goal and had four saves in the loss.
