McKendree Swimming & Diving Concludes Action at the Meet of Champions

2017 Meet of Champions Day Three Results

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Nov. 19) –
The McKendree University swimming & diving teams concluded competition at the House of Champions meet hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind. The men finished the meet in 5th place, and the women finished in 6th place.
 
The Bearcats enjoyed another successful day of competition at day three of the House of Champions meet. Nine different McKendree swimmers earned NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times, with five doing so in both the preliminary and finals events. The men's squad made the jump from 6th place to 5th place with 684 points in the meet. The women's team held tight in 6th place with 539.5 points in the meet. The competition field included 14 teams, including some Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponents. Both the men and women finished ahead of GLVC opponents Lewis University and Bellarmine University, and behind just one GLVC team, the University of Indianapolis.
 
Sunday's events included the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. The finals session began with the men's and women's 1650-yard freestyle, and concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay after the finals of the morning's preliminary events.
 
Women's
Freshman swimmer Victoria Sananikone earned NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times with both her prelim and finals times in the 200-yard butterfly. Sananikone's prelim time of 2:02.96 also earned her the school record. She went on to finish in 3rd place overall with a time of 2:04.42 in the A Finals. Freshman swimmer Karlie Rimat earned an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time with her prelim time of 2:04.95 in the 200-yard butterfly. Rimat finished in 6th place overall with an A Finals time of 2:05.48. Freshman swimmer Meredith Geyer earned an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time with her time of 2:01.92 for a 3rd place overall finish in the A Finals of the 200-yard backstroke. Geyer also broke the school record with her finals time. Sophomore swimmer Sydney Rey earned NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times with her finishes in both the prelims and the finals of the 200-yard backstroke. Rey posted a time of 2:03.26 in the prelims, and bested her time with a 2:03.17 in the A Finals where she finished in 6th place overall. Sophomore swimmer Milica Sostarec touched the wall in 51.72 in the prelims of the 100-yard freestyle to earn her an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time and a new school record. Sostarec also earned an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time in the A Finals, finishing in 8th place overall with a time of 51.89. The relay team of Geyer, Sostarec, Sananikone, and sophomore swimmer Magdalena Knapp finished in 10th place overall in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.39.
 
Men's
Sophomore swimmer Matija Pucarevic took 1st place overall in the 200-yard butterfly with an A Finals time of 1:48.35. Pucarevic earned an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time with his finish, as well as a new school record. Freshman swimmer Alexander Skinner earned a 2nd place overall finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.82. Skinner's times in both the prelims and finals were NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times. Freshman swimmer Throstur Bjarnason earned an NCAA 'B' standard in the 1650-yard freestyle event, swimming the mile in 15:29.68 for a 2nd place finish. Freshman swimmer Brian Baggette also competed in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing in 10th place with a time of 16:08.28, just three seconds off the NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time. Junior swimmer Daniel Buijs earned two NCAA 'B' standard qualifying times, finishing in 3rd place overall in the 200-yard backstroke. In the prelims Buijs touched the wall in 1:49.52, and in the A Finals he bested his time finishing in 1:47.19. The relay team of Pucarevic, sophomore swimmer Luca Simonetti, Bjarnason, and Skinner posted a time of 3:00.81 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, just one second off an NCAA 'B' standard qualifying time.
 
The Bearcats are done competing for the fall semester and return to action against GLVC opponents on January 12th and 13th at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
