(LEBANON, Ill. - Oct. 23) - The McKendree University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2020 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championship races on Saturday, Oct.24. The championship is hosted by both Maryville University and Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
The men's team is set to run at 2 PM and the women's team is set to run at 2:45 PM.
"I'm happy we get to race this year and have a conference meet since there was so much unknown for a while," said assistant head coach
Hannah Inyart. "They should be ready to race, get some new personal records and end the season on a strong note."
The championships are split into two races, Race A, and Race B. Each race will allow a maximum of 80 runners.
The men's team will be running along the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Quincy, Rockhurst, Truman State, and William Jewel College. The women's team will compete against UMSL, Missouri S&T, Quincy, Rockhurst, and William Jewel.
The Bearcats competed in the GLVC Divisional Race, where the men's team did not register a team score, and were led by
Seth Kasinger (Pekin. IL/Pekin Community ). The freshman finished his first 8K of his collegiate career with a time of 29:35. The women's team finished fifth out of six teams and were led by
Madelyn Tepe (Venedy, IL/Okawville) (25:19) and
Kayla Tirey (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) (25:22). Tirey also completed the race with a new personal 6K best time.
With the championship race looming, the Bearcats will want to finish the season, and head into track season on a high note.
"The best way to get better is running in the competition," said Head Coach
Agne Eggerth. "It's the experience for the future 'money in the bank' so to speak. So, no matter what the indoor or outdoor season looks like they can gain experience from the competition."
