Pinheiro GLVC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week

Pinheiro Named PNC GLVC Men's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time in his career, McKendree University sophomore Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo) took home this week's PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award.  

Pinheiro won the 200 breaststroke against top ranked Indianapolis with the fastest time in Division-II this season with a time of 1:56.58. Pinheiro was second in the 100 breaststroke with the second fastest time in Division-II in a time of 53.74. 

Pinheiro was fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.41. He also swam the second leg of the second-place 200 medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:28.67. Pinheiro had a 24.41 split for his leg on the 200 medley relay team.  

Pinheiro is the second Bearcat to win the weekly award this season as graduate student Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans Private School) won the inaugural award this season. 

On the women's side Bec Cross from Drury University was named the PNC GLVC Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week. Cross won the 500 freestyle in a Division-II best time of 4:55.03. She also won the 200 individual medley in the second-fastest Division-II time of 2:03.26. Cross recorded the fastest Division-II time in the 400 individual medley en route to a new pool record at the Drury Invitational in a time of 4:18.81. The last event cross won was the 200 breaststroke in the second fastest time in Division-II in 2:16.63. 

She was also a part two relay teams that took first place with the first being the 400 medley relay that took home first place in 3:45.35 with a split of 1:04.18 and the other relay team was the 800 free relay that recorded a pool record time of 7:31.10 with her split being 2:00.97. The final event she competed in was on the second place 400 free relay team that finished in a time of 3:33.43 with her anchor leg split time being 52.18. 

Pinheiro and the fourth ranked Bearcats are back in action Nov. 18 at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. at 9 a.m. Central.
