Men's Swimming and Diving Has Strong First Day at Purdue Invitational

Bearcats Record Season Best Times in Five Events, Tally Seven NCAA 'B' Times

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The McKendree men's swimming and diving team put forth a strong effort in the pool here Thursday on the first day of the Purdue Invitational at the Doris Z. Holloway Pool to lead the Bearcats to a sixth-place overall standing with a total of 84 points.
 
The Bearcats are the lone non-Division I school at the event among the field of six men's teams competing.
 
Purdue University, who is the host team for the meet, leads the way with 266 points, while University of Louisville is second with 249 points and Northwestern is third with 183 points. Missouri State is fourth with 121 points and the U.S. Naval Academy is fifth with 97 points.
 
McKendree competed in six events on Thursday and recorded seven NCAA 'B' times and tallied season best marks in five of the six events they competed in.
 
One of the 'B' times was recorded by the Bearcats' 200 freestyle relay that turned a season-best and 'B' time of 1:19.03 and that time helped the Bearcats to a fourth place finish overall. The members of the relay team were senior Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley), junior Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service), junior DaVante Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College) and graduate student Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans Private School).
 
In its next event, senior Charlie Fraser-Allen (London, England/Highgate Wood Secondary School) posted a 'B' cut time in the 500 freestyle as he swam a time of 4:31.56 to finish second in the C Final. He also tallied a 'B' time in the prelims with a time of 4:34.76. Fraser-Allen's time was also a season best mark in the event.
 
Sophomore Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo) recorded 'B times in both the prelims and C Final of the 200 IM. In the prelims, he swam a McKendree season best time of 1:49.89 and then had a time of 1:50.68 to finish fifth in the C Final.
 
Two 'B' times were recorded in the 50 freestyle as Skinner posted a time of 20.08 in the A final to finish in sixth place. He also had a 'B' cut time of 20.23 in the prelims. The other 'B' cut time was recorded by Law, who swam a time of 20.18 to finish third in the B Final and Carey had a 'B' time of 20.49 in the prelims.
 
Senior Ethan Larson (Anchorage, Alaska/PAIDAIE Cooperative School) and senior Kenneth Glidden (George Town, Cayman Islands/Triple C School) finished 14th and 16th in the prelims of the 1-meter diving competition as Hanson posted a score of 226.55 and Glidden had a score of 118.20.
 
In the final event of the day, the 400 Medley Relay, the Bearcats 'A' team posted a season best and NCAA 'B' Time of 3:12.47 to finish in fifth place. The members of the relay team were Carey, Pinheiro, Lichinsky and Skinner.
 
The 'B' 400 Medley Relay team just missed a 'B' cut time by 16-hundreths of a second as they posted a time of 3:16.38 and the 'B' cut in the event is 3:16.22. The members of the 'B' relay team were freshman Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz), senior Garrett Schrock (Peoria, Ill./Peoria), freshman Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) and senior Taras Zherebetskyy (Alghero, Italy/ITA "Angelo Roth").
 
The Bearcats will continue the three-day Purdue Invitational on Friday, Nov. 19 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. Central and 5 p.m. Central.
