Men's Swimming & Diving Posts Six NCAA 'B' Times, Sets School Record in 100 Breaststroke on Second Day of Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The McKendree University men's swimming and diving team continued competition here Friday on the second day of the Purdue Invitational at the Doris Z. Holloway Poll.

On the second day of action, the Bearcat men tallied six NCAA 'B' cut times, set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke and had 13 season best times when factoring in both the preliminaries and finals.

After two days of competition, the men still sit in sixth place out of six teams with 210 points. McKendree is the lone Division II school competing at the event.

The day of action began with the 200 medley relay as the 'A' relay team posted a season best and an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:27.11 to finish in sixth place. The members of the 'A' relay team were freshman Patryk Rozenek (Radlin, Poland/Zsoms Raciborz), sophomore Filipe Pinheiro (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Colegio Ao Cubo), senior Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) and graduate student Xander Skinner (Namibia, Africa/Windhoek Afrikaans Private School).

In addition to the 'A' relay team, the 'B' relay team of junior DaVante Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Queens College), senior Garrett Schrock (Peoria, Ill./Peoria), freshman Jackson Lustig (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) and junior Caleb Law (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service) had a 10th place time of 1:29.04.

The next event was the 400 IM and Schrock was 26th in the prelims with a time of 4:09.71.

Lustig and Lichinsky each posted season best times in the 100 butterfly as Lustig was fifth in the A Final with a time of 47.65, while Lichinsky was sixth with a time of 47.69. Both of those swimmers also had season best times in the prelims as well and both of their times in the finals were also NCAA 'B' cut times.

Skinner turned in an NCAA 'B' time in the next event as he recorded a McKendree season time of 1:38.19 in the 200 freestyle to finish third in the B Final. The other 'B' time in the event was turned in by freshman Arthur Souza (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Saber) as he swam a time of 1:38.59.

Pinheiro would then set a new school record in the next event as he recorded a time of 53.21 in the A Final of the 100 breaststroke to finish third. The time of 53.21 was an NCAA 'B' time and bettered his old school mark of 53.48 set at the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships.

In the next event, the 100 backstroke, Rozenek would record a season best and an NCAA 'B' cut time of 48.20 to finish sixth in the A Final. Carey would also turn in a season best time of 48.59 in the event to finish second in the C Final.

Two divers competed in the 3-meter competition on Friday as senior Ethan Larson (Anchorage, Alaska/PAIDAIE Cooperative School) was 12th in the finals with a mark of 248.00 after qualifying for the finals with a mark of 276.70. Senior Kenneth Glidden (George Town, Cayman Islands/Triple C School) was 17th in the prelims with a mark of 115.15.

The final event of the meet for the Bearcats was the 800 freestyle relay, an event the Bearcats swam for the first time this season. In the event, the 'A' relay team of Skinner, Souza, freshman Leo Gandaria-Hernandez (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) and freshman Alireza Yavari (Isfahan, Iran/Shayestegan) posted a time of 6:37.09 to finish in seventh, while the 'B' relay team of senior Noah Javens (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison), Schrock, Lustig and senior Charlie Fraser-Allen (London, England/Highgate Wood Secondary School) posted a 12th place time of 6:49.35.
