ELKHART, Ind. – McKendree University men's swimming and diving got off to a strong start here on the first day of action at the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center.
In Wednesday's opening day of action, the No. 4 ranked Bearcat men took home two gold medals and recorded one automatic NCAA Division II qualifying mark, two NCAA provisional marks and eight NCAA 'B' qualifying standards.
The two event wins for the Bearcats came in the first event of the evening finals, the 200-medley relay and also by senior
Gregg Lichinsky (West Des Moines, Iowa/West Des Moines Valley) as he repeated as the champion in the 50 freestyle with a new championship meet record.
McKendree didn't waste any time in earning its first gold medal of the 2022 championships as they took home first place in the first event of the evening finals as they set a new GLVC meet mark in winning the 200-medley time in an NCAA provisional time of 1:25.53. That bettered their old meet record by about a second as the old mark of 1:26.31 was set in 2020.

While the Bearcats won the gold medal in the 200-medley relay, McKendree's 'B' relay team of freshman

The time of 19.68 bettered Lichinsky's old meet record of 19.70 set at last year's championship meet. Additionally, the time was also an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time.
Along with Lichinsky, the Bearcats also went fourth, seventh and eighth in the event to score 102.5 points in the event. In the event, graduate student
