INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | Great Lakes Valley Conference - Freshman goalkeeper
Toby Lewis of McKendree University men's soccer helped push the Bearcats to an unbeaten weekend with a win and draw on the road behind two shutouts, leading his to earn the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Monday. Lewis, a native of Auckland, New Zealand, recorded his third shutout in the last four games while amassing seven saves over the two contests, earning him the Bearcats' first POTW honor of the 2025 campaign. McKendree and Lewis get back in action on October 3 and 5 on their home turf, Leemon Field, against Missouri S&T and Lincoln (MO).
Lewis, who has started six of eight games this fall, holds a 3-2-1 record in his time in goal and a 3-1-1 record in conference play. The freshman keeper grabbed two saves in the first game of the weekend, a 4-0 victory over Southwest Baptist, while collecting four saves against Drury on Sunday, a game that ended in a dead heat at 0-0. Lewis currently holds a 0.67 goals against average with a .733 save percentage on 50 shots faced. Lewis and the Bearcats currently hold a 3-3-2 overall record with a 3-1-1 record in league play.
