LEBANON, Ill. -- McKendree women's volleyball returns to the Melvin Price Convention Center for the third weekend of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play, facing Upper Iowa University (UIU) on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. and Truman State University on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
This past weekend, the Bearcats took losses to Illinois Springfield in three and fought in four sets against Quincy University. Libero Bianca Galaviz earned her career high in digs (16), while Setter Peyton Uptgraft earned a season high in four categories: in kills (4), assists (36), points (5.5), and blocks (3). She also had seven digs in the four-set match against Quincy.
Currently, McKendree's offensive leaders are right side hitter Madelyn Clarke, and outside hitter Reece Distler, earning 113 and 104 for the team, respectively. Distler stands at the top of the leaderboard in digs, totaling 111. Defensive specialists Paige Parant and Galaviz tie in second with 96 digs each. Outside hitter Brooke Heimburger has earned the most kills on the team during the four matches of conference play, and averages 2.46 per set. Uptgraft has broken into top 10 assists in the GLVC with 263 total (5.60 avg/s).
McKendree is headed into this weekend 0-4 in conference and looks to take their first GLVC win at home. UIU is 1-3 in GLVC play and is coming off a loss to No. 21 University of Indianapolis. Truman State is split, with a 2-2 GLVC record, sitting seventh in conference standings, with senior setter Tori Creason earning GLVC Setter of the Week after this weekend, upsetting No. 21 University of Indianapolis. Creason also leads the conference in assists, averaging 10.23 a set.
Friday's match for the Bearcats is its Breast Cancer Awareness Match, encouraging a pink out for the fans. Admission for the games this weekend will be $10 for general admission, $5 for 65 and older, and $25 for a weekend pass. Children 12 and under, as well as students have free admission. All games will be streamed on the GLVC Sports Network.
