EVANSVILLE, Ind. – McKendree Men's Swim and Dive kept showing up and showing out on the fourth day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Swim and Dive Championships Friday night at the Deaconess Aquatic Center.
Miguel Carvalhosa started off the night in the 500-yard freestyle breaking the previous school record of 4:19.88 in the event with the new time set at 4:19.22. Jakub Rynkiewicz also finished in the top five of the event, he stopped the clock with a 4:24.15.
In the 100-yard backstroke Joey Ovanic claimed fifth place with a time of 48.50. Nojus Bertulis also got a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 53.79.
The best event for the Bearcats was the 200-yard butterfly. In this event, Vova Gavrysh claimed his second individual gold medal swimming a time of 1:44.61. Rounding out the top five was Tyler Bardak and Carson Olson getting fourth and fifth with times of 1:46.51 and 1:47.33 respectively. Also, in the top 10 was Caden Brooks finishing in seventh place with a time of 1:47.82.
McKendree finished out the day with a bronze medal performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Tyson Upton, Gavrysh, Ovanic and Daniel De Oliveira finished with a time of 1:19.18.
Next, the team will be competing in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard breaststroke on the final day of the GLVC Championships.
