LEBANON, Ill. -- Women's volleyball travels to Owensboro, Kentucky this weekend to compete in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational.
The Bearcats play against University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday, September 4th at 3:00 p.m. in their first matchup. The following day, they will face the host, Kentucky Wesleyan, at 11:30 a.m., closing the tournament against Davis & Elkins College at 4:30 p.m. at the Woodward Health and Recreation Center.
After a competitive opening weekend hosting the McKendree Invitational, the Bearcats look to increase their overall hitting efficiency to have the upper hand offensively. Madelyn Clarke, a sophomore pin hitter, earned All-Tournament Team honors, racking 35 kills and six blocks after a total of four matches. Junior defensive specialist, Paige Parant, led the team in total digs, earning 36 on the weekend, and matched her career high of three aces vs. Montevallo University. Freshman middle blocker Ilana Reeder, had a notable career start, earning eight blocks and a hitting percentage of .500 on the weekend.
McKendree's first game against Arkansas-Fort Smith will be the first ever matchup between the two teams. The Lions went 2-2 for their opening weekend and picked up a mid-week sweep against University of Arkansas at Monticello. The Bearcats will be their second game of the tournament after playing Kentucky Wesleyan at 10:00 a.m. Friday. The Bearcats have a 4-0 winning streak against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Despite having the home stand advantage, the Bearcats look to dominate the gym in attacking percentage.
The last match will be against Davis & Elkins, who had a similar outcome as the Bearcats in their opening weekend at the Catawba/Belmont Abbey Tournament. After going 0-4 on the weekend, sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mattey led the team with 22 kills and totaled 21 digs.
Admission to the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational will be $10 per person and can be purchased on site via cash or card. All matches will be streamed on Flo Sports, with a subscription purchase required. The schedule, along with the broadcast stream access and live statistics, is available here.
