Women's Volleyball Travels To No. 16 Lewis, Wisconsin-Parkside

(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 20)—
The McKendree University volleyball team wraps up a five-match road trip with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches this weekend. The Bearcats square off with Lewis University Friday at 7 p.m. in Romeoville, IL before closing out the weekend Saturday in Kenosha, WI with a 3 p.m. showdown versus the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

McKendree holds an overall record of 13-8 including an 8-1 mark in conference play.

The Bearcats are second in the GLVC in hitting percentage at .243, second in blocks per set (2.13) fourth in assists per set (12.49), and fourth in kills (13.44).

The Bearcats are led offensively by junior outside hitter Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) who leads the conference in kills per set at 3.51, totaling 274 on the season. Williams adds 245 digs and 37 blocks for McKendree. Senior right side Allison Schneider (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) is second on the team with 222 kills to go with 131 digs. Senior middle blocker Sophie Fairman (Staunton, IL/Staunton) has put down 182 kills while leading the GLVC in attack percentage at .404. Fairman also leads the Bearcats in blocks with 73 which ranks fifth in league play. Junior right side Amanda Geiger (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) rounds out the top attackers for McKendree with 163 kills to go with 40 digs and 51 blocks.

Senior setter Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) paces the Bearcats from the setting position with a team high 423 assist averaging 5.42 per set along with 127 digs. Sophomore setter Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon) is just behind her with 401 assists for an average of 5.57 per set to go with 128 digs. Junior middle blocker Carissa Lorenz (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) is second on the team with 69 blocks and her average of 1.05 blocks per set puts her fifth in the GLVC.  Freshman Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) and senior Breanna Howe (Mt. Pulaski, IL/Mt. Pulaski) have split time at the libero position with Zeitelhack tallying 168 digs, while Howe has totaled 154 as McKendree has limited opponents to a .180 attack percentage this season.

ABOUT LEWIS UNIVERSITY

The Flyers enter the weekend ranked No. 16 in the nation with an overall record of 16-5 and sit atop the GLVC standings with perfect 9-0 showing in league play. Lewis is led by junior middle hitter Aly Schneider who leads the Flyers with 228 kills while hitting at a .378 clip which ranks second in the GLVC along with 60 blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Hyland is second on the squad in both kills and digs with 224 and 235 respectively. Junior right side Maddie Seliga adds 191 kills and 165 digs. Sophomore setter Abby Becker leads the GLVC with an average of 10.81 assists per set to pair with 169 digs. Freshman middle hitter Caroline Stefanon has posted a team high 68 blocks. Senior libero Nicole Yuede averages 4.71 digs from the back row for the Flyers. McKendree topped Lewis 3-2 in their only meetings a season ago. The win over the Flyers gave the Bearcats the top seed in the GLVC Tournament as the teams shared an identical 15-3 record in league play. McKendree and Lewis share a 4-1 record against common opponents this season with the only loss for each school coming at the hands of No. 21 Ferris State University.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-PARKSDE

The Rangers hold an overall record of 9-13 and are in fourth place with a 5-4 mark in the GLVC East Division. Wisconsin-Parkside is paced by senior outside hitter Rebecca Roembke who leads the team in kills with an average of 2.86 kills and 2.49 digs per set. Junior middle blocker Lexi Turkek is just behind Roembke with averaging 2.52 kills and .092 blocks per set. Freshman Kasey Davis rounds out the top three scorers for the Rangers averaging 2.45 kills per set. Senior setter Lauren Hickson is second in the GLVC this season with an average of 9.91 assists per set totaling 813 on the season. Freshman Annie Leo leads Wisconsin-Parkside in digs with 347, averaging 4.13 per set. The Bearcats edged the Rangers 3-2 in their only meeting a season ago. Wisconsin-Parkside is 2-2 against common opponents of McKendree this season while the Bearcats are 4-0 in those matches.
