(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 27)—The McKendree University volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of the Harry M. Statham Sports Center this weekend with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches. The Bearcats square off with Maryville University Friday at 7 p.m. before closing out the weekend Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
McKendree holds an overall record of 14-9 including a 9-2 clip in GLVC play.
Friday's match against Maryville will also mark the Bearcats' Dig Pink match for 2016. The McKendree volleyball program will honor cancer survivors and those who have fought the battle against the disease.
In the latest Great Lakes Valley Conference statistical report, McKendree ranks fourth in the league in kills (13.38 per set). The Bearcats are also fourth in blocks (2.07 per set) and fourth in assists (12.50 per set).
McKendree is paced offensively by junior outside hitter
Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) who is coming off back to back 20 kill performances and leads the Bearcats in kills per set and digs per set at 3.59 and 3.20. Senior right side
Allison Schneider (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) is second on the team averaging 2.90 kills per set to go with 1.82 digs per set. Senior middle hitter
Sophie Fairman (Staunton, IL/Staunton) has put down 2.28 kills per set to go with a league leading .389 attack percentage. Junior right side
Amanda Geiger (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) rounds out the top attackers for McKendree as she averages 2.16 kills per set.

Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon) paces the Bearcats from the setting position averaging 5.65 assists per set to pair with 1.71 digs. Senior setter
Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) also averages over five assists at 5.40 along with 1.60 digs. Junior middle blocker
Carissa Lorenz (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) averages a team high 1.01 blocks per set, while freshman libero
Alissa Zeitelhack (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) and senior libero
Breanna Howe (Mt. Pulaski, IL/Mt. Pulaski) average 2.55 and 2.29 digs per set respectively.
ABOUT MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY
The Saints enter the weekend with a record of 3-21 and just a 1-10 mark in league play. Maryville is paced by freshman outside hitter Allison Lakin who averages a team high 2.87 kills per set. Lakin is also third on the team with 1.90 digs per set. Junior middle blocker Ashley Selman is second on the squad with an average of 2.27 kills per set. Selman also ranks second on the team in attack percentage at .257 while leading the team with .075 blocks per set. Freshman setter Kayla Buxton leads the team in assists with an average of 4.61 per set to go with 1.24 digs per set. Freshman libero Maggie Murphy leads the Saints from the back row with an average of 3.51 digs per set. Maryville owns a 1-9 record against common opponents of the Bearcats while McKendree is 8-2 in those matches. The Bearcats topped the Saints 3-1 in their only meeting a season ago.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
The Tritons boast an overall record of 13-8 and are 7-4 in GLVC action. Missouri-St. Louis is led offensively by freshman outside hitter Selena Nolte who averages 2.60 kills per set on .213 attacking along with .70 blocks per set. Senior middle blocker Lexi Rogers is second on the team with 2.36 kills per set with a team high .351 attack percentage while posting .91 blocks per set. Freshman right side Kylie Rudsinski is the only other Triton to average more than two kills per set at 2.09. Junior setter Madyson Abeyta has dished out a team high 5.71 assists per set to pair with 1.71 digs per set. Junior libero Danielle Waedekin anchors Missouri-St. Louis on the defensive end ranking second in the GLVC with an average of 5.71 digs per set. The Tritons are 5-6 against common opponents of McKendree this season while the Bearcats are 7-4 in similar matches. McKendree topped Missouri-St. Louis 3-2 in their only match last season.
