(LEBANON, Ill., June 18)—McKendree University had a total of 228 student-athletes who earned GEICO Academic All-Conference honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The GLVC released the league-wide list of academic honorees on Tuesday.
For the third consecutive year, McKendree topped the 200 mark in terms of GEICO Academic All-GLVC recipients. In order to receive GEICO Academic All-GLVC honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher throughout the course of the recently-completed academic year.
"I am proud that McKendree student-athletes continue to excel at such a high level in the classroom," said
Chuck Brueggemann, director of athletics at McKendree. "They continue to reinforce the fact that they are students first, making academics the top priority as they pursue their undergraduate degree. Maintaining the expectations of professors, coaches, and the student-athletes themselves, is a testament to their dedication in excelling academically while striving to compete within the top athletic conference in NCAA Division II. I salute those who have achieved this high honor, and our coaches for the emphasis they place on academic success."
Eight McKendree athletic teams who compete in GLVC-sponsored sports were represented by at least 15 GEICO Academic All-GLVC honorees. Football led the way with 33 recipients, followed by women's soccer with 22. The Bearcat baseball program was close behind with 21 student-athletes who received the award. Each of the Bearcats' 19 GLVC programs had a representative on the GEICO Academic All-GLVC squad for 2018-19.
In all, a total of 2,769 student-athletes garnered GEICO Academic All-GLVC distinction for the year. The list of honorees features students from the following sports: baseball (288), men's basketball (71), women's basketball (145), men's cross country (93), women's cross country (113), football (185), men's golf (100), women's golf (81), men's lacrosse (85), men's soccer (215), women's soccer (272), softball (173), men's swimming and diving (109), women's swimming and diving (127), men's tennis (74), women's tennis (79), men's track and field (159), women's track and field (190), volleyball (149), and wrestling (61).

Over the course of the last five years, the per-school record averages have been 147 (2013-14), 151 (2014-15), 160 (2015-16), 184 (2016-17), and 190 (2017-18).
