INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | Great Lakes Valley Conference - McKendree University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper
Christian Herluf added a third-straight Defensive Player of the Week honor after two more shutouts, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The freshman totals four Defensive Player of the Week honors on the season.
Herluf, an Odder, Denmark-native, continues his strong season with his third-straight and fourth overall GLVC Defensive Player of the Week honor behind two shutouts on the road. The goalkeeper collected four saves while facing 12 shots over the weekend, not allowing any scoring at Quincy nor No.14 Illinois Springfield. With the weekend performances, Herluf and the Bearcats improved to 8-1-6 overall and 6-1-4 in the league. The weekend helped hold Herluf in the rankings in Division II, ranking nationally in goals against average (6th), goalie minutes (t-17th), and save percentage (31st). In the GLVC, he ranks goals against average (2nd), shutouts (2nd), and save percentage (3rd).
Herluf also made McKendree history as he collected his ninth shutout of the campaign, marking the Bearcats' DII-era individual single-season shutout record. The single-season team mark for shutouts since joining NCAA DII is 10.Â
