“Benny” Isselhardt was an outstanding athlete and a terrific leader as well. He served as quarterback and captain of the football team his junior year at McKendree. Benny also made the Kittle Nineteen Conference All-Star team his junior year. He was an outstanding leader – knowledgeable, mature, and dedicated.

Following graduation in 1940, Benny began his coaching career at Highland high School in 1946. Later, he simulatneaously earned a master’s degree at Washington University while coaching football, basketball, and baseball at McBride High School in St. Louis. In 1952, he began an illustrious career at Edwardsville High School, where he served until the time of his death in 1966.
Benny’s excellent athletic abilities as well as his wonderful leadership skills will always be remembered and treasured at McKendree College.
