Charles Leckrone was an athlete at McKendree College from 1950 to 1954. While at McKendree, Charles received nine letters in three sports and was an outstanding all-around athlete. He was the starting quarterback his freshman year on the last football team in 1950 (won 3 – lost 5) and considered an excellent passer.

Charles was a three-year starter on the basketball team and the 6th man his freshman year. His teams won 20 or more games each year. In 1952 he led the team at free throw percentages of 88%, which was very high in the nation. He also received an honorable mention to the All-Conference team in 1952.
Charles was a tremendous track performer as a pole-vaulter, high-jumper and long-jumper. He led the track team in points scored all four years and was awarded the MVP all four years on a very good team. Charles graduated with honors as well respected as an outstanding student athlete. He was elevted to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1953-54.
