Lee received four varsity letters in baseball. His senior year he won the team batting crown and was voted Most Valuable Player. His junior year he was team co-leader for runs scored during the season. After graduation he was selected for the Mon-Claire Baseball League All-Star Team for thirteen consecutive years. In 23 years of coaching baseball at Marissa High School, Ill., Lee established a record of 412 wins, 224 losses, and 5 ties, won fourteen conference championships, twice qualified for the state tournament, and in 1986 won the Illinois High School Association Class A Baseball Championship. He coached Marissa’s basketball team to six conference championships, and to the Super-Sectionals in 1976. Lee was named Illinois Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1986. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Mon-Claire Baseball League’s Hall of Fame in 1986.
