Dennis earned eight varsity letters: four in basketball and four in baseball. He received the Louis F. Vesely Memorial Scholarship in 1968-1969. Dennis was voted most valuable player of McKendree’s basketball team in 1966-67, and was top rebounder in 1968-69. He made the NAIA District 20 Special Mention All-District Team in 1969. He was an NAIA First Team All-District player in 1970 and an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 1970. Dennis had 1,735 career points and 1,061 rebounds. In baseball Dennis maintained a career batting average of .350. The third baseman led the team in batting in 1968 and 1970. He was head basketball coach at Lebanon High School for five years with a career record of 125-25, and junior varsity baseball coach for 15 years. He also coached grade school baseball. Dennis was voted Metro-East Journal Sportsman of the Month in April 1976 and Coach of the Year in 1976 and 1978.
