This former McKendree basketball player was named MVP two years in a row, was continually recognized by the NAIA both athletically and academically, and still holds McKendree College’s season three-point field goal record. In his two seasons at McKendree, Adams became a member of the Bearcat’s 1,000-Point Club. He amassed 1,216 points. Adams currently ranks fifth on McKendree’s career three-point field goal chart with 213 and sixth in career three-point field goal percentage at .416. Adams poured in a career-best 39 points against Harris-Stowe State College in the 1997-98 season.
Marty Adams, from Patoka, Ill., came to McKendree as a junior from Olney Central College. Many who knew Marty Adams during his time at McKendree agree that he made his mark both on and off the basketball court. In addition to an outstanding basketball career, Marty was also active in intramural sports, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the education honors society, Kappa Delta Pi. He and his wife, Ashlee, continue to support the McKendree College basketball and women’s tennis teams. Marty enjoys returning to the college for alumni basketball games.
Marty made a difference in people’s lives at McKendree, and continues to do so. A graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Marty taught at both the elementary and junior high levels. He coached junior varsity high school basketball teams, as well as elementary school baseball and basketball. Marty still sponsors the high school Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and enjoys following the Cardinals, playing golf, and spending time with his growing family.
