After Curt graduated from McLeansboro High School in 1960, he enrolled at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, on an athletic scholarship. During his freshman year, he played both football and basketball. Transferring to McKendree College for his sophomore year, he became a three-year starter in basketball and was named M.V.P. his senior year. Curt graduated from McKendree in 1965 with a degree in physical education and social studies.

Curt taught and coached in Wyanet, Tremont, and McLeansboro, Ill. He was the assistant principal, athletic director, and head basketball coach at McLeansboro High School for 15 years. In 1994, Curt retired but remains the boys’ basketball head coach as well as athletic director for boy’s basketball.

Curt coached all-star games for medal-winning teams. He is a member of the Illinois Teaching Alums and a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He has been invited for the last six years to spend four weeks in Oahu, Hawaii and two weeks in Maui with tourney Sport, a basketball tournament on the BYU campus.
