Woody earned eleven varsity letters: four in football, four in track and three in basketball. In 1933, the Bloomington Pantagraph named him to the First All-Star Team in football, and he was named to the Associated Press and United Press All-Star Team Honorable Mention. In 1934, the Associated Press and United Press named Woody to the First All-Star Team. He was All-State Captain in 1933 and 1934. Woody was voted the Bearcat grid squad’s Most Valuable Player in 1934. In track he tied the then-existing world record of 6.1 seconds for the 60-yard dash and placed second in the 1934 Little Nineteen track meet. As a basketball forward his point total ranked school and college athletics from 1934 to 1977 (except from 1952-62). He was inducted into the Highland community College Hall of Fame in 1977 and in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Blackhawk Officials Association and served on the IHSA Rules Committee as an interpreter.
