Jack Parker played first base and outfield for McKendree College on their varsity team for four years and was an outstanding athlete. He was an excellent defensive first baseman, as well as an outstanding hitter. His on-base percentage was also impressive. Jack, the Quiet One, was feared by his competitors and was often walked. He hit homeruns in the 9th inning against Greenville College, MacMurray College and Washington University all in one year. Jack loved being in the role of needing to win the baseball game. Baseball scouts followed him throughout his career at McKendree College, pressuring him to sign before graduation, but he wanted to finish his education first. He signed with the Cleveland Indians and played in their Minor League system.

Jack’s four-year statistics included a batting average of .416, 170 runs scored, 195 total hits, 20 homeruns, 58 stolen bases, 27 hit by pitch, 77 base on balls, and 110 runs batted in. McKendree’s record was 81-16 during Jack’s tenure. His statistics are truly outstanding and he represented McKendree College as a talented student-athlete with dignity.
