Robert "Bob" Stone received four letters in basketball and two in baseball. While playing guard for the Bearcat basketball team, Bob became a member of the 1,000 point club with a total of 1,579 total career points. This placed him as a number four on McKendree's all-time scoring list.

As a freshman, Bob led the team in free-throw percentages with a 81.6% success ratio. He was second in points scored as a sophomore with 420 points, first as a junior with 478 points and led the team again as a senior with 530 points - a 16.6 points per game average. His free-throw percentage during his junior year was a 79.6% and 80.7% his senior year. Bob was an outstanding ball handler, dribbler, and passer, and was recognized as the team leader his final three years. He was team co-captain his senior year and also named team MVP his senior year.

Bob was named as an honorable mention on the NAIA list of All-American basketball players for the 1972-1973 season and was named as a guard on the District 20 All-Star team. He was again named to the District All-Star team his senior year and was awarded the Louis F. Vesely Scholarship award given annually to an outstanding basketball player who has exhibited high quality of character both on and off the court and shows exceptional achievement and promise of future usefulness.

Bob also played baseball for McKendree during his sophomore and junior years. A conflict in his student teaching schedule did not allow him to play baseball his senior year.
