A center, Lloyd led the team in rebounding all four years and by his junior year was ranked 28th in the nation in rebounding. His freshman year he was third in team scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. His game average rose to 19.4 his sophomore year and 21.7 his junior year. Lloyd’s honors included receiving the MVP Award for the 1956-57 season and being named to the All Conference team three consecutive years. The Bearcats claimed the Prairie State conference title all four years he played, and the 1955-56 team was the first to receive a post-season bid, a trip to the state’s NAIA Final Four. He was team captain his junior year. In baseball Lloyd led the team to four Prairie State titles from his first-base position. His four-year batting average was .348 with a t 21-RBI average. After his McKendree graduation, he turned down a contract with the St. Louis Browns baseball team but stayed active in sports as a high school basketball referee and coach of youth baseball teams.
